One of the great things to being a wedding professional is the ability to see a family grow.  That’s why I was so glad to hear from Heidi when she called and asked me to take Carson’s 1 year old photos.  I hadn’t seen Heidi in some time and was glad to catch up with her on life and her two sons.  It was a treat to meet Carson for the first time and the first thing I noticed was how similar Carson looked like his dad Chad.  It’s almost a spitting image of Chad and Carson was a superstar for his first photo session.

Just like his older brother Mason, Carson loved being in front of camera and was just a photogenic baby.  Every pose that Heidi and I for him, he nailed and best part of the shoot was the candids of Carson just being Carson.  Whether he was playing with his toys or eating his cupcake, Carson was a natural and was great to work with.  I can’t wait for the next time I’m able to shoot Heidi and her family

One of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever been a part of was being in the delivery room for the birth of baby Dominic.  A few weeks earlier, Wayne asked me if I was interested in taking photos during Dominic’s arrival to the world and I was game for it.  I was really nervous on this shoot, but once Wayne and I put the scrubs on and went into the delivery room I was ready.  I saw Jennifer lying down there and she put me at ease and told me to do my thing and I just shot everything.  The doctors and nurses were great in telling me what was going on and when I saw Dominic come out, I was in awe.  It was an awesome experience and I would like to thank Wayne and Jennifer for having me capture this for them.

Mardi Gras and New Orleans go hand in hand.  Growing up in the Big Easy, I’ve experienced my share of Mardi Gras and actually grew very tired of it during college. For a number of years I even scheduled my vacation around carnival and left town for a few days.

Then all of a sudden I regained my carnival spirit when I took my niece to her first parade last year and enjoyed seeing the sights and sounds that is Mardi Gras and New Orleans.  Watching my niece scream and enjoy all the throws she was receiving was a sight to see.  Fast forward to this year and I grew excited about Mardi Gras and everything that it offers.  Besides the great floats, many schools, their cheerleaders and bands are involved in the parade and march with the krewes along the route.

It’s a great time to hang out with the family and just meet new people while catching beads, stuff animals, and enjoying the parade.  Mardi Gras is an event that everyone should experience and it’s the greatest free party in the world.  I love this city and my re-discovery of Mardi Gras with my family and niece.  Happy Mardi Gras to everyone.

It’s that time of year for my year in review and 2012 saw DVB continue to grow and I couldn’t be more happy with the growth of DVB into a well rounded studio.  This past year saw us expand the photography side of our studio and 2013 will complete our photo expansion with us offering full photography coverage along with our multiple videography packages.  This has been a long time coming for DVB and I’m excited about the possibilities that photography will add to our video services.

All of this expansion could not have been done with the help of my staff assistants.  They have taken the load off of me by filling in on video edits and taken the lead on productions when I am the photographer on our sessions that require both a videographer and photographer.  To Brianna, Ashley, Josh, and now Laurie, my new Wedding Coordinator, thank you for your hard work and dedication to DVB.

Just like last year, I can’t wait for 2013 to get here and have us start on all our projects for the year.  It’s going to be a great year and I hope all of you come along for the ride.  To view the Top 12 DVB Photos of the Year, please click here

I enjoy getting phone calls or texts from previous clients.  It nice to catch up with them after their wedding and see how life has changed since the wedding.  I got several of those calls during the holiday season and it was great to catch up with two of my former brides, Katherine and Emily.  Both of them were looking for holiday cards to mail out to family and friends and I was happy to meet them out and take a few photos.

Ever since our first shoot together on their Save the Date Video, I have built a very good friendship with Katherine and her husband Brian.  They were an absolute joy to work with and their friendship is one I truly value.  Just like everything else we did for their wedding videos and photos, their Christmas Card shoot was a blast.  I got to see their new home and their newest addition to their family Dixie.  We snapped photos around the house and neighborhood and it was really good to hang out with them again.

Emily and Charles were my first wedding in 2011 and had one of the best moments I’ve captured on film.  The start to the reception was awesome as they had a marching band lead them out in a second line and was just a sight to see.  I caught up with Emily and Charles a quick photo session for the New Year’s Cards.  It was great to see them again and their dog Natalie.  They are such a photogenic couple and it reminded me of our time at Mardi Gras World for their engagement session.  All their photos came out great and just being able to spend some time with them made for an enjoyable day.

I love hearing from my past clients.  Whether its for coffee, a drink, or an ongoing text conversation, it makes me feel good to know that my clients wanna get in touch and let me know how their doing.  It’s a great feeling to have and puts a smile on my face.

It seemed like yesterday that I was writing my 2010 post and now it’s time for my 2011 year in review blog.  This past year was an incredible year for us at Weddings by Digital Video Breakdown and we filmed some fantastic weddings during the last 12 months.  One of those weddings included our first destination wedding and having us travel to Rosemary Beach, Florida for Jeanne and Brent’s special day.  Another great day was Emily and Charles’ day and that had the best second line I ever saw; when you see a high school marching band lead the bride and groom through the second line is a sight to see and one of the most funniest times I’ve had at a wedding.  Two weddings were special to me this year and it saw me come full circle as a videographer.  I filmed two of my former volleyball players weddings this year and that was special.  Those two days made my job even more gratifying then it is.  I’ve expressed this often and I feel that I have the best job in the world.

Everything that DVB does is not possible without the assistance of my staff.  We had some comings and goings this year and one of those goings was my first assistant hired, Jenn.  She was with me for three years and she felt it was her time to move on to the career that she studied for. Yet, with every loss there is a gain.  I was happy to welcome new videographers, a few freelance photographers, and an editor to my team that makes DVB an even more diverse and creative bunch.  The DVB Krewe shares my vision for videography and photography and my passion to give our clients everything they need.  To my staff, thank you for all your hard work and for our continued success in 2011.

2012 will mark my eighth year as a wedding professional and I can’t wait to get started and build on the success of 2011.  To all readers of this blog, thank you for taking time to read some of my thoughts on my clients and for my family that supports me.  Happy New Year to everyone and a great 2012.

Towards the end of Rachel and Mitch’s Wedding last Saturday, I felt a little sad.  Why?  I knew the end was coming because it was Jenn’s last day working for me at Weddings by Digital Video Breakdown.  Jenn was the first assistant I ever hired and has helped me in filmed countless weddings, rehearsal dinners, love story videos, worked numerous bridal shows and many other events for me.  She came aboard three years ago and helped me expand the company and I can’t thank her enough for it.  I never saw Jenn as an employee but as a friend helping another friend out.  Jenn is moving to Florida to begin her new career and I would just like to thank her for all her contributions to me and DVB.

I couldn’t be more happier with the way 2010 worked out for us at Weddings by Digital Video Breakdown. Everything that I hoped for, we accomplished and it benefited the people that mattered the most; our clients.

2010 was an incredible year that saw us film priceless moments. I’ve never forget our first wedding of the year when Dale broke down during his vows and started crying; the amazing dance that D’Andra and her bridesmaids surprised Buddy with; Timmy crying during every step that Jonee took coming down the aisle with her father and the look of Becky and Brice’s face when they saw each other for the first time during the first look session. These are the moments that stand out to me but there are hundred more that I could write about.

I could not have done any of this on my own and would like to thank my staff for all hard work and dedication to the craft of videography and photography. To Janell, Jenn, Emily, and Jen, thank you for everything and we will continue to develop new concepts and techniques for our client’s enjoyment.

I can’t wait for the start of 2011 as we will grow from everything we did in 2010. To everyone out there, Have a Happy New Year and below is a collage our my dependable staff working through the year. Many thank go out to Ray Taix of the Brothers Taix Photography for his great design on the collage
